Tunnel Blindness has been made in collaboration with skilled artisan Benjamin Baldwin. Finely balanced on a sustainably constructed wooden base are four abstract oil paintings on Plexiglass: impressions of the entrance to the proposed East West Link Freeway, based on a colour palette from Fred Willliams’ paintings from the same region of Melbourne. The images combine hard edge abstraction with painterly brushstrokes. The recycled hardwood base has been crafted using minimal material wastage; traditional mortise and tenon joints with non-toxic glue and no nails or screws. Viewers are encouraged to climb into the centre of the structure and view the work from within. An audio sound piece creates an immersive environment for engaging with the work.
